Crown Repair
The crown is the most important part of your chimney. It's what keeps water from entering the interior of your chimney. If the crown is properly constructed with an overhang and drip ledge, it will also prevent a lot of water damage to the exterior brick of your chimney. The reality is that few crowns are ideally constructed and are little more than a wash of leftover mortar plopped on the top of the chimney and sloped up to the flue tile. The best way to fix a cracked crown is to remove it and pour a properly formed crown that will help keep water off the sides of the chimney, but we also use a product called Flexible Crown to repair crowns that are cracked and eroded from the top course of brick. Flexible crown is a pre-mixed masonry product that has elastomers blended in with it, so that when it dries, it is still flexible enough to expand and contract without separating from the top course of brick or the flue tiles. Flexible Crown comes with a 15 year warrantee against cracking. Mouse over the picture to see the crown after treatment with flexible crown.
